ROBOTICS
As its name suggests, robotics include a cluster of processes that make use of robots for repetitive actions and techniques. Robots and robotic techniques have been in use at Cadorath for many years and include processes such as welding, plasma spray, and HVOF metalizing.
ADVANTAGES OF ROBOTICS
- Increased accuracy and consistency.
- Reduced costs and increased speed.
- Improved quality and scalability of production.
- Extra layer of security, especially for sensitive proprietary processes.
- Increased operator safety for hazardous tasks.
ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT
Robots were first used commercially on assembly lines in the early 1960s and by the mid-80s, the foundation of the present-day industrial robot was laid, as robotics began using advanced sensors and rudimentary machine vision systems. Since the early 2000s, developments in industrial robots have been driven largely by advancements in software. But advances in metallurgy and production have also reduced initial investment costs, allowing for wider industry acceptance.
FUTURE APPLICATIONS
It’s obvious that advances in the robotic automation market will continue to grow by leaps and bounds in the years and decades ahead—including at Cadorath. One aspect of robots and manufacturing often overlooked is what’s known as collaborative robots, or “cobots,” designed to work safely in close proximity or in direct contact with humans.
