VACUUM FURNACE BRAZING
As its name suggests, vacuum brazing is performed in the absence of air, using a specialized furnace. High-quality brazed joints are achieved with this method because the parts are closely fitted and the base metals cleaned and free of oxides.
ADVANTAGES OF VACUUM FURNACE BRAZING
- Provides flux-free joints with high integrity and superior strength.
- Lower residual stresses because of slow heating and cooling cycle.
- Significantly improves thermal and mechanical properties of the material.
- Easily adapted for mass production.
ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT
This process gains its advantages through the use of vacuum technology. Although difficult to pinpoint, using the vacuum technology for brazing was likely introduced in the early 20th century.
FUTURE APPLICATIONS
The versatile process is commonly used in the energy, medical, aerospace and automotive industries, with new applications frequently being discovered.
