LAPPING
A machining process in which two surfaces are rubbed together with mild abrasives between them. Cadorath’s technicians typically use sandpaper or lapping tables with abrasive paste compounds to achieve the desired result.
ADVANTAGES OF LAPPING
- Provides extremely fine and finished polished surfaces.
ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT
Of undetermined origin, the technique typically follows other subtractive processes that have already removed more stubborn and deep-seated material.
FUTURE APPLICATIONS
With the aid of accurate interferometry and specialized polishing machines, current processes produce surfaces that are polished to extremely fine finishes.
