MICROSTRUCTURE EVALUATION

Most metals at different stages of their useful life exhibit a specific microstructure that can be evaluated for a variety of conditions. At Cadorath, highly sophisticated equipment is used to discover if the raw material was produced to quality standards, or to find out why a material is not responding to specific applications or machining operations.

ADVANTAGES OF MICROSTRUCTURE EVALUATION

  • Highly efficient for evaluating the interface between applied coatings and base materials.
  • Also used to evaluate brazing samples.

ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT

Determining the microscopic structure of various materials dates back to the evolution of microscopes themselves. Although the inventor is unknown, compound microscopes using focused light first appeared in Europe in the early 1600s.

FUTURE APPLICATIONS

In the early 20th century, the first significant alternatives to the light microscope, called transmission and scanning electron microscopes, were introduced, revealing a world previously only imagined.
