SALT SPRAY TESTING

One of the most widespread and established tests for corrosion, salt spray envelops test samples in a salt fog to evaluate the suitability of the coating for use as a protective finish. At Cadorath, these materials are usually metallic, although stone, ceramics, and polymers are also tested.

ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT

The salt spray test is one of industry’s most widespread and long-established corrosion tests. The first internationally recognized salt spray standard was published in 1939.

FUTURE APPLICATIONS

Many of the popular salt spray tests currently in use have been modified, with many materials not requiring the same durations of salt exposure. These modified tests have been introduced to correspond to the growth of specific industry sectors.
