INTERNAL GRINDING
Internal grinding is usually performed on a substrate to remove material that must be finished with high surface quality, together with high accuracy of shape and dimension. Grinding is often considered a subset of cutting—the method is common in mineral processing plants and the cement industry. At Cadorath, typical applications include the grinding of coatings that are not suitable to a lathe and for achieving tight tolerance bores.
ADVANTAGES OF INTERNAL GRINDING
- Provides high precision when needed due to the minimum amount of material removed.
ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT
Employed in industrial manufacturing for over a century, grinding techniques date back to before recorded history. Size reduction, in fact, could easily be considered the oldest engineering process known.
FUTURE APPLICATIONS
The continuous evolution of grinding techniques only points to ever-more efficient and innovative practices in the future. New ceramic abrasives, based on sol gel technology and diamond abrasives (natural and synthetic) are some of the newer methods.
