CHEMICAL CONVERSION COAT

Also referred to as chromate or yellow chromate coating, this process typically involves the application of chromate to aluminum substrates to create a corrosion resistant surface—together with excellent electrical conductivity. The coatings also ensure that reliable electrical connections can be made to aluminum chassis and components. At Cadorath, the process is also known by its brand name, “Alodine.”

ADVANTAGES OF CHEMICAL CONVERSION COAT

  • Very price competitive.
  • Excellent corrosion protection—withstands salt-spray and other tests extremely well.
  • Provides electrical insulation.

ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT

Since its original discovery as an excellent solution for metal plating, the chemical conversion process has experienced many innovations and continues to be experimented on — occasionally revealing new discoveries and applications.

FUTURE APPLICATIONS

Without the benefits of this process, metal and other substrates would have paint that only sits on top of their surfaces.
