NICKEL CADMIUM PLATING
In this process, a thin layer of cadmium is applied immediately after the nickel plating. An oven bake is then applied to diffuse the cadmium plating into the nickel. Cadorath technicians use this process for parts of less complex shape where the required thicknesses can be met.
ADVANTAGES OF NICKEL CADMIUM PLATING
- Typically used on parts and metals exposed to very high temperatures.
- Can add lustre, appeal and brightness.
- Provides excellent adhesion for subsequent coating layers.
ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT
Patented in the United States in the mid-1800s, an aggressive marketing campaign in the US and Europe resulted in a near universal acceptance of the process by many industrial countries.
Throughout its long history, innovations and experimentation on the process have continued to this day.
